OUR Los Al (Organizations United to Renew Los Alamitos High School)
was founded in 2001 by parents in the Los Alamitos High School community
to support Los Al HS activities and improve facilities by getting
Los Alamitos High School booster clubs to work together rather than
as totally separate independent organizations.
Working with school officials, the group identified the most pressing
needs for Los Al High facilities and has contributed money to improve
them. Over the last few years the group has paid for an aerial survey
of the entire campus, and worked with architects, booster clubs
and school officials to organize a master plan for approved potential
improvements. OUR Los Al has also donated money for a new scoreboard
in the gym, and contributed money for field improvements for the
LAHS Varsity soccer and lacrosse fields.
Working with the booster clubs, OUR Los Al has organized and hosted
The Taste for Los Al,
which was first held in October 2001 at the Rossmoor Center. It
was attended by over 600 persons and raised over $20,000. The 2007
Taste sold over 2,800 tickets and raised over $230,000. In seven
years, the Taste has helped raise over $800,000 for Los Al High
School activities and facilities.
This year OUR Los Al has broadened its focus to accomplish the
next two of its original goals – the creation of a Los Alamitos
High School Hall of Fame and the creation of an active Griffin alumni
association. We have been working with class reunion committees
and active alumni and we now have a database of over 4,000 active
alumni.
We have also set up sub-website that is dedicated to Los Al alumni.
Now instead of having to go to many different websites, Los Al alums
can go to one central website to find out all things Griffin, and
also to learn about many possible ways to donate back to Los Al
HIgh School programs.
